ChildLit..impressions..

Another sem. has opened and new subjects are ready to attack us!..hehe.. Well, I think this "impression" blog of mine about this subject is a bit late but just let me express it anyway. I am a self-confessed book-lover, story-lover since the world begun. And this subject has more than ever inspired me to this kind of love because of its nature. And more than that, we are given the chance to hone our story-telling skills which is a vital quality that a teacher must possess.

So far, this is a fun subject! My assigned topic for the upcoming oral presentation was "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien. Our instructor allowed us to borrow the books for our assigned topic in their "majestic cabinet" / the ENGMASOC Collection. During the Christmas break, I indulged myself into this book. And I really enjoyed it! It's as if Tolkien has brought me to Baggin's adventures too. And now, I'm into planning as to what should I do with my presentation. Uh-oh! This sounds another mountain coming up...but, I know I can flaten this mountain by God's help. Char..hehe..

And this week, our instructor allowed us to read a story by Edgar Allan Poe entitled "A Tell-tale Heart". It was a group activity too which made us gave our own outcome of the story. When I read it, I can't describe my feelings. It was a sort of "dark" and "gothic" which really gave me goosebumps. It wasn't eerie or scary on a brutal way but somehow there's a sense of darkness in it. Funny thing is, I can't afford to get mad at that killer guy. In some way, I felt a sense of sympathy too him. E. A. P. is a weird kind of writer, I can tell.

We also had a film showing of the movie entitled "The Bridge to Terabithia". I thought it would just be another fantasy story/movie. But it proved me wrong! In some ways, it brought out the child in me. I remember that I was like those two kids some years ago. I was like imagining things and putting them into writing. But somehow, as adult life approaches, I sometimes forget these seemingly childish-stupid ideas/imaginations in my head. The movie reminds me to continue what I once started because eventhough this world is a big bang "REALITY"...I think it's good to have a sense of fantasy and illusion sometimes for it somehow makes this slippery world a better place (at least in my mind).

This has been the busy bee's activities and impressions in Child'sLit.

See yah when I see yah!
